about

"Smooth Move" is the third album from DEY self-titled Melbourne musician "Andre Vanderwert".

This new record strays from soft rock to jazz, weaving through garage until eventually reaching a climactic folk acoustic conclusion. Lyrically Andre explores the human condition, questioning what it means to exist in a society raised on a set of media enforced values. Through out 2014 Andre has been performing regularly; creating a live show that is just as much about visual captivation and performance as it is about the music. The latest record hopes to encapsulate a taste of this live setting by using a more produced template, large spread recording techniques and sweeping synth that brings visions that embody the cover art. These visual indulgences give a face to the voice and an identity to the face. This new identity acts as a representation of new culture that lives by the motto “do watchya wanna”.

Andre creates a world removed from what we have come to know as live music. Upon experiencing one of Andre’s live shows, you are immediately transported into a motorcycle fuelled, leather vested, foggy dream like land, with walls made of dynamic soft rock. The intricate lighting shadows all your pre-conditioning into obscurity as a touch of smooth jazz lingers in the subconscious.

For the creation of "Smooth Move" regulars in the Melbourne Music scene were recruited in order to deliver his message in a delightful auricular manner: Jordon Thompson (The Ocean Party) swims through the keys delivering smooth jazz undercurrent, while Alec Marshall (Hot Palms) shreds guitar like a true adult contemporary session musician; Jake Core from Soda Eves supports the piece with streams of velvety smooth bass. Special guests popup on vocal duties along the way including songstress Emma Russack, Zone-Out's front lady Ashley Bundang and local indie rock legend Marc Reguiro-Mckelvie (Popolice, Teeth and Tongue)

The aptly titled second release from the album "Single Town" has seen radio play from Triple J's Home and Hosed whilst the first single "Friends" has had high rotation on FBI and seen plays on Triple R and 4ZZZ.

Dave Ruby Howe (triple j) "Single Town"
"Andre's been turning up the heat on this sultry red light rock for a while now and this one's some next level business. You can't cage an animal like Andre so just admire this raw magnetism."

"Single Town" also caught the ears of commercial music video director Tim White, which later resulted in a collaboration, creating another dimension to the multi-dispensary exposition.
